The Liberian Women’s Initiatives - Minnesota (LiWIM) organization was founded in 2003 by a group of Liberian women who saw a significant need forgender-specific support services for the rapidly growing Liberian population living in Northwest Hennepin County in Minnesota.

Due in large part to high rates of illiteracy and the traumatizing effects of Liberian civil war, immigrant and refugee women from Liberia are in need of an inclusive, community-based organization that assists these women and girls to adapt and succeed in mainstream America.

LiWIM’s Goals

LiWIM’s goal is to facilitate success through:

Continually building LiWIM so as to function as an effective and sustainable resource for the
  greater community
Developing and implementing programs and services that meet the expressed needs of Liberian
women and girls where service gaps exist
Representing the female Liberian community with a collective voice, as well as serving as their
  issues-based advocate in Minnesota

The celebration aims to educate and situate this diverse community of women in Minnesota on topics including understanding, tolerance, and human rights involving girls and women from the local to the international scale.

This year's event Transforming the World Through Women's Voices takes place on Saturday, March 24 from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM at Coffman Union, University of MN (East Bank).
